Let’s talk originality.
‘Be you, be who you are.’, Ever heard this and thought what if who I am is not enough or someone even, I don’t know how to be, or what if who I am will not conform to the requirements of my environment? It is indeed heard often, and one piece of advice mostly everyone will give you. Just Be you.
I don’t think anyone can ever be an expert telling others how they can be authentic, but we can probably look at different angles and approach the subject of authenticity how we see it fit as an individual.
The easiest way is to probably start understanding yourself and being more aware of the why behind everything you do or feel. If you want to always make sure that you are not sacrificing your authenticity for a job, relationship, or really in any given situation you have start by learning a few things about yourself.
The biggest one is you must know what kind of a person you are? What are some of the values you strongly hold? And what reasoning do you base your decisions on?
The idea is to accept both your strengths and weaknesses, both your qualities and flaws. You are who you are, and you must not rob the world of your originality.
We all have something unique to offer, and we must remember if we try to become or act like someone or something we are not, we are only losing in the long run. We are not only walking down the path of misery, but we are also taking something away from both ourselves and the world.
It will all start with making a conscious effort to understand what comes naturally to you and go with it. Just because someone says you should do something in a certain manner, or pick a certain profession, or be with a specific type of person; that doesn’t mean you have to take that on board. What matters is you stay true to your own independency both in thought and action.
You will always come across people who will try to take away your originality from you, and the sad truth is it’s much easier to save it from them than it is from yourself. We only start acting unnatural is when we allow ourselves to do it. We are in control of how we want to live this life and most importantly who we are and will become throughout this journey.
So remember this one basic rule, you are losing out on a lot if you are not sticking to your originality and the only way to do it is by constantly reflecting on why you act the way you do, if something about yourself makes you unhappy how will you change it, and if you want to change it and most importantly what does your most authentic self will look and feel like? That is the person you have to save, it is that simple.
